Top star Nick Kyrgios will return to Stuttgart
Yet another top star has confirmed his participation at the BOSS OPEN! Nick Kyrgios will compete on Stuttgart’s grass from 10th-18th June 2023. Already last week, Italian defending champion Matteo Berrettini had confirmed his return to the Weissenhof.
With Matteo Berrettini and Nick Kyrgios, the BOSS OPEN will welcome two of the best grass-court players in the world next June. Kyrgios knows how to amaze the fans: “Tweeners”, underhand services – the 27-year-old Australian is always fun to watch. Also, he played one of his best seasons in 2022.
With the start of the grass-court season in Stuttgart, Kyrgios started to really find his game. Like in 2018, he reached the semi-finals of the BOSS OPEN. In 2018 (against Roger Federer) as well as in 2022 (against Andy Murray) he only had to bow to multiple times Grand Slam champions. After the Weissenhof tournament, he also reached the semis in Halle, and then went on to play his first ever Grand Slam final in Wimbledon just a short time later. There, Novak Djokovic had to battle over four tough sets to finally beat Kyrgios.
If there had been ATP ranking points awarded in Wimbledon this year, Kyrgios would have received 1,200 points and would find himself ranked around number 10 in the world. As it is, the man from Australia is currently number 22 – also because of his triumph at the ATP 500 event in Washington and reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open after eliminating then number 1 in the world, Daniil Medvedev, in the round of the last 16.
About him not only entertaining fans with great tennis, the winner of seven ATP tournaments once said: “I don’t think that I’m doing too many crazy things on the court. I’m now 27 and I’ve been playing like this since I was 10. I’ve always been very emotional and ambitious. I won’t change. I think, fans want to see emotional matches. When you lose, you are angry. That’s how it is, that’s human. Some show it more, some less!”
