Defending Champion Ben Shelton to compete at the BOSS OPEN through 2029
The BOSS OPEN will be a fixture on Ben Shelton’s tournament calendar for the next three years. The American, who won his first ATP title on grass in Stuttgart this year, will not only seek to successfully defend his title from June 5 to 13, 2027, but will also return to the Weissenhof for the Stuttgart tennis highlight through 2029.
Ben Shelton is enjoying an outstanding 2026 season on the ATP Tour! After winning titles in Dallas and Munich, he claimed his maiden grass-court triumph at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart. He followed that up with another title at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal and then reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open in New York. The left-hander was beaten there in four sets by Germany’s No. 1, Alexander Zverev, who is also on the entry list for the BOSS OPEN 2027.
His remarkable run has pushed Shelton to No. 4 in the ATP rankings. In the year-to-date standings, the “Race to Turin”, he is currently even higher at No. 3, behind Zverev and Jannik Sinner (ITA). Numerous experts believe he has an excellent chance of consistently challenging for a place in the ATP Tour’s Top 3 over the coming years.
Shelton excites tennis fans not only with his serves, which he fires over the net at speeds of more than 230 kilometres per hour, but also with his athleticism, mental strength and composure. In Stuttgart this year, he had to save a match point in his round-of-16 encounter against fellow American Marcos Giron and two more in the semi-final against Czech Jiri Lehecka. In an equally thrilling and high-quality final, Shelton then defeated BOSS brand ambassador Taylor Fritz in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, on a sold-out Centre Court.
“I have always felt very comfortable in Stuttgart. Winning the tournament this year has made the BOSS OPEN even more special to me. The tournament at the Weissenhof is perfectly organised, and the fans always create an amazing atmosphere during the matches. I’m really looking forward to coming back to Stuttgart for the next three seasons, and I’ll do everything I can to be as successful as I was this year,” said Shelton.
His girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, could play a key role in making this goal a reality. The daughter of eccentric basketball star Dennis Rodman and a leading player for the U.S. women’s national soccer team was in the stands in Stuttgart for all of Shelton’s matches last June. “You’re my good-luck charm. I think I’ve won every tournament you’ve been at,” Shelton told Rodman during the trophy ceremony. She had travelled directly from an international match in Brazil to the Weissenhof.
Tournament Director Edwin Weindorfer is delighted with Ben Shelton’s long-term commitment to the grass-court tournament in Stuttgart: “We are very pleased that we will be able to welcome Ben Shelton to the BOSS OPEN over the next three years. He was in outstanding physical condition during his tournament victory this year and thrilled the crowd with his fighting spirit. Ben has tremendous potential!” And Shelton intends to showcase that potential once again at the BOSS OPEN in 2027.
