The facility at Stuttgart's Weissenhof was opened in 1914. The first International Weissenhof Tournament was held in 1916.

In 1978 the tournament became a member of the Men's Grand Prix series. Since 1979, the tournament has been held as the Mercedes Cup.

In 2022, a new era begins. After 42 years of MercedesCup, the tournament will continue under the name BOSS OPEN with the entry of HUGO BOSS AG as title sponsor.
