Justin Engel Delights Stuttgart Fans

The 17-year-old top talent celebrates a straight-sets victory at the BOSS OPEN over Alex Michelsen, the American No. 7 seed, setting several records in the process.

With a 6-4, 6-4 win, Engel set the tone early in both sets. The Nuremberg-born player broke serve at 2-1 in each set and confidently held his own serve throughout. Impressively, he did not face a single break point during the entire match.

His run to the quarterfinals makes Engel the youngest quarterfinalist in Stuttgart tournament history, and also the youngest player to reach the quarterfinals at an ATP grass-court event since 1985 — when none other than Boris Becker advanced to the quarterfinals in Wimbledon.

The triumph over Michelsen also marked Engel’s first career win against a Top 50 player. With this victory, Engel breaks into the ATP Top 250 for the first time.

In the next round, the young German will face the winner of the match between Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
