One German still fighting for a place in the main draw

Of the four Germans who competed in the qualifying rounds, only Yannick Hanfmann made it through to the second round.

Hanfmann, seeded sixth in qualifying, had no problems defeating his compatriot Max Wiskandt 6-4, 6-2. The 23-year-old German entered the competition with a wild card but was unable to capitalize on his opportunity. Neither could Maximilian Marterer, who won only two games against seventh-seeded Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The defeat was particularly bitter for Patrick Zahraj. The 25-year-old from Giessen, also playing with a wild card, pushed the experienced Hungarian Marton Fucsovics to the limit, even serving for the match at 5-4 in the third set, but ultimately had to admit defeat 4-6, 7-6 (2), 5-7.

Li Tu from Australia knocked the number 2 seed in qualifying, Eliot Spizzirri (USA), out of the competition with a straight 6-4, 7-5 victory. Also advancing: Nikolosz Basilashvili (5/GEO) and Tristan Boyer (3/USA).
