World class line up in Stuttgart

The provisional field of participants at the BOSS OPEN now boasts no less than six current top 20 players. After the US duo Taylor Fritz (ATP 9) and Frances Tiafoe (ATP 12) as well as the Italian defending champion Matteo Berrettini (ATP 20), three more stars from the circle of the world's 20 best tennis players have committed to the grass court tournament at the Weissenhof: Poland's Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 15), US American Tommy Paul (ATP 17) and the young Italian star Lorenzo Musetti (ATP 19). Grigor Dimitrov (BUL) and Wu Yibing, who recently made Chinese tennis history, are also taking part.

Stuttgart, May 18, 2023 – According to the current status, the top four Fritz, Tiafoe, Hurkaczand Paul will enjoy a bye in the first round of the BOSS OPEN. This also means that the first two days of the main draw (Monday and Tuesday, June 12/13) will feature stars like Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti (both ITA), Nick Kyrgios (AUS), Denis Shapovalov (CAN) and Grigor Dimitrov (BUL). German local hero Jan-Lennard Struff is also expected to take part in the action at the Weissenhof on one of these two days.

Hubert Hurkacz made headlines at Wimbledon 2021 when he defeated 20-time Grand Slam champion winner Roger Federer in straight sets in the quarterfinals. It was to be the Swiss tennis icon's last singles match on the ATP Tour. The 26-year-old Pole also showed his skills on grass in Halle last year, where he won the title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. Following his success in Marseille this season, Hurkacz now holds six ATP tournament victories.

Tommy Paul made headlines at the start of this season by reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. A short time later, he also reached the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco, thus laying the foundation for a push up to position 17 in the world rankings - the 25-year-old right-hander's best position in the ATP rankings to date.

One of the most interesting players on the men's tour is also coming to Stuttgart. We are talking about Lorenzo Musetti, who already has some sensational match victories to his name. Last July, for example, the 21-year-old defeated Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the final in Hamburg and recently beat Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo. In Musetti's case, all the experts agree that the Italian has a great and successful future ahead of him!

Grigor Dimitrov can already look back on a great career! The 32-year-old Bulgarian has won eight ATP tournaments - the highlight was his triumph at the 2017 ATP Finals in London. At Wimbledon, Dimitrov, whose trademark is the one-handed backhand, made it to the semifinals in 2014.

Wu Yibing, the first Chinese tennis pro to win an ATP tournament in the "open era" (since 1968), will also come to Stuttgart. The 23-year-old gave John Isner (USA) the slip in a dramatic tie-break thriller in the Dallas final in February this year. In the decision of the third set, Wu prevailed 14:12! "I made history for my country and my homeland", Wu cheered after his biggest coup so far.

"The field of participants in this year's BOSS OPEN features many different types of players. This guarantees an interesting tournament and grass court tennis at the top level. In addition, we still have three wildcards at our disposal, the allocation of which is also dependent on how the French Open in Paris will play out. Regardless of this, the BOSS OPEN will offer exciting and top-class matches from the first day of the main draw", tournament director Edwin Weindorfer is convinced.
