Semifinals are set

Frances Tiafoe (USA/3), Marton Fucsovics (HUN/Q), Hubert Hurkacz (POL/4) and Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) will battle it out in the semifinals on Saturday for a spot in the grand final.

Tiafoe prevailed against Italian shooting star Lorenzo Musetti after 2:41 hours 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-2. In the first set, the Italian still had the upper hand in the tiebreak, but in the second the tide turned. Musetti served a double fault on set point of all things. After that, the 25-year-old American had the match safely under control and finally converted his third match point. "Every match is different," the American revealed afterwards. "It doesn't happen to me often that I serve for the set twice and don't make it both times. In the end, I fought my way in and prevailed. I'm glad I got the job done."

In the semifinals, Tiafoe will not face compatriot Taylor Fritz, as was expected, but Hungary's Marton Fucsovics. The Hungarian qualifier handed the tournament's No. 2 a 6-4, 7-5 defeat. In the first set an early break was enough for Fucsovics, in the second set the match went to 5-5 before the Hungarian was able to take Fritz's serve to take a 6-5 lead. After 1:41 hours, Fucsovics converted his fourth match point. It is the first ATP-level semifinal for the Hungarian since Rotterdam 2021.

Fucsovics was more than satisfied with his performance: "I served well, was very focused and played well in general." The Hungarian is already looking forward to the match against Tiafoe: "We know each other well, we have played against each other many times. I think it will be fun for everyone."

The number 4 of the tournament, Hubert Hurkacz, made short work of his opponent. The Pole gave Australian Christopher O'Connell no chance in a 6-4, 6-4 in 86 minutes, but still showered his opponent with roses after the match: "It was a tough match. Christopher has developed well and will have many more successes. It was solid from me, I served well. A big thank you to the crowd who came in such large numbers and supported us.

Hurkacz will face Jan-Lennard Struff in the semifinals. The Warsteiner safely prevailed 6-4, 7-5 against French veteran Richard Gasquet, who had celebrated his 600th match victory on the tour in the round of 16. "That was a difficult match today with a difficult opponent. Gasquet takes a lot of pace out with the slice, returns flat and the sun was also uncomfortable for both of us today," Struff noted after the match.

In the first set, Struff managed to break for 4-3, in the second set the German took the serve from his opponent to make it 6-5 and then served out safely. After 1:15 hours, Struff converted his first match point and entered the semifinals of the BOSS OPEN for the second time since 2019. Struff knows what to expect on Saturday: "We have already practiced here together. He is a very pleasant person off the court, very deeply relaxed. On grass, he plays outstanding. He serves brutally well, the cannons fly around your ears and he plays very flat with his backhand. I think he's an awesome player."
