Alexander Zverev will play the BOSS OPEN
This means that the initial phase of the grass-court highlight on Monday and Tuesday (12/13 June) will already be really spectacular, as the matches of Zverev, defending champion Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Musetti, Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov, Grigor Dimitrov and the second German star Jan-Lennard Struff are scheduled on these two days.
"I am very pleased to be part of this year's BOSS OPEN. The tournaments in Germany have a great significance for me. I love playing in front of my fans. I come to Stuttgart with the goal of getting off to a good start to the grass-court season," emphasized Alexander Zverev, who has already demonstrated his qualities on grass courts with two appearances in the Halle finals (2016, 2017).
While the top 4 of the tournament - Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe (both USA), Hubert Hurkacz and Tommy Paul - have a bye in the first round and will therefore not be involved in the action until midweek, Zverev and numerous other stars in the world-class starting field of the BOSS OPEN will kick off the main draw on Monday and Tuesday (June 12/13).
"The opening days of the main draw promise to be a display of world-class tennis. The participation of Alexander Zverev boosts this year's BOSS OPEN tremendously. We are very happy that the Olympic champion from Tokyo will play at the Weissenhof. The entry list also includes two Wimbledon finalists in Nick Kyrgios (2022) and Matteo Berrettini (2021). BOSS brand ambassador Berrettini already won the Stuttgart tournament in 2019 and 2022 and is still unbeaten at the Weissenhof. In addition, Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov are two players who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2021. With the US trio of Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul, youngster Lorenzo Musetti, veteran Grigor Dimitrov and Jan-Lennard Struff, who is currently in top form, the group of favorites to win the tournament this year is bigger than ever," explains tournament director Edwin Weindorfer.
Via the "detour" of qualifying, three more German players - Yannick Hanfmann, Daniel Altmaier and Oscar Otte - will try to make the main draw. The conditions for a tennis spectacle could not be better at the 125th anniversary of the Weissenhof tournament, whose origins date back to 1898!
Former world number two Tommy Haas agrees: "With such a well-balanced field, it's almost impossible to narrow down the favorites to win the tournament. The three US Americans will certainly be worth watching out for. Taylor Fritz won in Indian Wells last year and also showed that he is at home on fast surfaces with two tournament victories in Eastbourne (2019 and 2022). And anyone who has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament, like Frances Tiafoe at the US Open last year and Tommy Paul at the Australian Open this season, must also be taken very seriously. I'm already curious to see how Alexander Zverev will present himself after missing the grass court season last year following the ankle injury he suffered in Paris," explains the BOSS-OPEN ambassador and tournament director of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells.
